Hello Everybody guys,
Well its official, the day has finally arrived and the #Happy Slam has begun!
There has been a number of upsets, (particularly among the woman), there has been a number of the usual suspects asserting their dominance (we’re looking at you Novak!), and there has been some young guns who have come out blazing, showing the world what they can do (and we are so #Happy that list includes Aussie Omar Jasika!).
We spent our day out on Hisense Arena (which is accessable on a ground pass). First up we saw Kei Nishikori defeat Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-4,6-3,6-3, followed by Qiang Wang’s upset of 24th seed Sloane Williams. Sloane started well with a 3-0 lead in the first set, before Wang was able to turn the match around and take the win 6-3,6-3.
Next up 16th seed Caroline Wozniacki took on Yulia Putinseva. Caro started strong taking the first set 6-1. With a little bit of crowd support Putinseva was able to make her way in to the match taking the second set in the tie breaker. With the match going over 3 hours it was a battle for not just the points but who could outlast who, under the scorching Aussie sun. At the start of the third set Caro took a MTO to have her foot strapped, before Putinseva was able to take the set and match 6-4.
The night match was Nick Kyrgios (who we saw at Kooyong last week) vs Pablo Carreno Busta (who we also saw at Kooyong last week). Unfortunately the match was over so quickly we didn’t get any pics (Nick Kyrgios won 6-2,7-5,6-2). But luckily there were a few thousand more people there who did.
You know we like to ask the hard questions, so tell us (in the comments section) what do you think of the outfit?
We’ll try my best to bring you a daily wrap up of all the action from the Fan experience around the #Happy Slam. If you want to see our full gallery of photo’s head over to our Facebook page (Just click here) (or here) (or even hereeeeee).
