Hello #Happy Slammers!
Can you believe it? The Aus Open is only a matter of hours away!!
We have been working really hard behind the scenes to bring you the full fan experience. In the lead up to the Aus Open we spent warming our Tennis souls with 4 days at the Kooyong Classic.
The event is really relaxed and consists of a 12 player field, who you can get up close and personal with and if you’re lucky you can even get that ever elusive selfie. This year we were also lucky enough to have chat with Spaniard Nico Almagro but more on that in the coming days.
And as an extra special treat we also got an exhibition match between Kei Nishikori and Omar Jasika. Omar put up a great fight pushing Kei to a third set before going down in the tie-breaker.
For this year’s event we also had a selection of pretty awesome food trucks, a Pimms tent, a live band and even got the chance to be part of the press conferences which were all held in the stunning Kooyong Common (Side note: we LOVED that the kids got to ask some questions, such as Feli “What did you think when you were down 5-8 in the 3rd set tie break?”, Feli: “well, I thought I was done”).
The space also had some great activities for kids and in the Priceline Pharmacy tent you could also get your choice of beauty treatments (funds raised here also go towards the Priceline Sister club) and, even better, entry after 3pm was free!
There were so many awesome matches which we couldn’t possible go through here but if you head over to our FB page you can see all our photos of the action.
David Goffin was the eventual winner, defeating Spaniard Feliciano Lopez in the final.
We also had a little fun with some daily Periscope broadcasts, along with Mel from Grand Slam Gal– our execution might leave something (or a lot) to be desired but we loved interacting with #Happy Slammers from all over the world. We will be doing more of these broadcasts from the Aus Open so make sure you’re following us!
