New year, new season, new start. Or rather: new year, new season, new withdrawal. The injuries just keep on coming/ persisting so we thought we’d keep you up to date on the announcements so far.
Madison Keys withdrew from Sydney because of her left arm.
Lucie Safarova won’t be playing the AO because of a bacterial illness.
Serena Williams withdrew from the Hopman Cup with knee swelling.
Ana Ivanovic pulled out of the ASB Classic in Auckland after suffering from dizziness and headaches during doubles.
Maria Sharapova withdrew from Brisbane due to her left arm.
Garbine Muguruza retired from Brisbane because of her foot.
Simona Halep withdrew from Brisbane with Achilles injury.
Sam Stosur is undergoing wrist scans but hopes to be fit for the AO.
And the following males have announced there absence at the AO:
Pico and Delpo because of wrist.
Thanasi Kokkinakis due to shoulder.
Janko Tipsarevic with a foot injury.
Richard Gasquet because of back.
Tommy Haas because of shoulder.
Maybe it’s because they work so hard in the off season and they are only testing themselves now. Maybe they are being extra cautious, taking it slow so they are happy for the Happy Slam. Maybe they are just incredibly unfortunate. We are sending positive feelings to the aforementioned players and hope they’re fit and fighting as soon as possible!
